The Cowichan Performing Arts Center is getting back up and running for its new season with a busy schedule for the month of October.
It all starts on Thursday October 5 with the Ballet Victoria performance Ballet rocks.
From 7:30 p.m., the show promises “a thrilling and electrifying program that pays tribute to some of the greatest rock and roll groups of our time. Unexpected and mix of genres, Ballet rocks combines iconic rock anthems with contemporary ballet styles for an innovative dance experience.
Tickets are $36 for adults, $30 for seniors and $10 for students and children.

The following night ABRA Cadabra – Thanks for the music takes the stage at 7:30 p.m. on October 6.
This ABBA tribute band hails from Vancouver and has been touring the world for over 20 years.
“Featuring a live band, powerful vocals, dancers, multimedia and costumes, this interactive stage show will have you smiling, moving and singing along to hits such as ‘Mamma Mia,’ ‘Dancing Queen,’ ‘Take A Chance ‘, ‘SOS,’ ‘Waterloo,’ ‘Fernando’ and more,” a press release from the show promises.

Coming soon in another tribute, this time to the beloved Bee Gees, October 13 at 7 p.m.
The Australian Bee Gees Show – A tribute to the Bee Gees he says it’s straight from Las Vegas.

The following night, October 14, the comedy took the stage with the Hunger for Laughter Tour.

It’s something a little different on October 15 at 2 p.m. as the musical group Oktopus takes the stage with the price of entry being a donation.
The event is part of BC Culture Days. All donations will be made to the Cowichan Intercultural Society. You must always book a ticket for the show in person or by phone. Places on the day of the show are subject to availability.
Oktopus is made up of eight musicians who “put on a festive and wild show, both deeply melancholy and full of humor and history. Rewarded by numerous awards, Oktopus is a major presence on the Canadian world music scene, with more than 250 performances to its credit in the country and abroad. The group is mainly dedicated to klezmer, which is distinguished by a unique approach that integrates various components of the classical and Quebec repertoire, with some jazz and Balkan accents,” according to a press release.

October 20, 21 and 22 will see three episodes of the Cowichan Cabaret concert series.
The first features TESSER with Reuben Shepherd and Tai Williams at 7 p.m. on October 20. The second features Arbutus Roots with Dennis Atkins and Naomi Payan at 7 p.m. on October 21, and the third is an afternoon concert at 2 p.m. with Positive Rebellion. with Trip’N’Me and Malakai.
Tickets for all three series of shows are $60 for adults and $33 for children. Single tickets cost $25 for adults and $15 for children.
Seating for these shows will be cabaret style on stage, creating an intimate atmosphere where you will get up close and personal with the performers.
The series is presented by CPAC in partnership with the Duncan-Cowichan Festival Society.

The next step is a family show with Dog Man: The Musical on October 24.
“Based on the worldwide hit series by Dave Pilkey, Dog Man: The Musical is a hilarious and heartwarming new production that follows the chronicles of Dog Man who loves to fight crime and chew furniture,” reads a press release for the series. “But while trying to be a good boy, can he save the town from Flippy the cyborg fish and his army of Beasty Buildings?”
The show is recommended for ages six and up and begins at 6:30 p.m.
Regular tickets are $55, $50 for seniors and $35 for students/children. A family ticket is also available for $140.

As the month begins to wind down, Blue Moon Marquee takes the stage on October 27 for a show at 7:30 p.m.
“Unhindered by any single genre, the blues duo has created a distinct sound that blends blues, jazz, jump jive, folk, swing and native soul with an authentic spirit that leaves audiences spellbound,” states a press release from the show.
The group just scored four wins at the 2022 Maple Blues Awards.

The last show of the month is part of the Reel Alternatives film series on October 30 at 7 p.m.
The movie is Blind ambition, which “follows four friends who overcome all odds to become South Africa’s top sommeliers after escaping famine and tyranny in their homeland of Zimbabwe. Driven by unwavering optimism, a passion for their craft and a sense of national pride, they form Zimbabwe’s first national wine tasting team and are aiming for the coveted title of ‘World Wine Tasting Champions’.
