Australian company Star Scientific chooses New Mexico for North America expansion – Albuquerque will become the center of clean hydrogen research and manufacturing and create 200 jobs.
New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham and Global Star Scientific Ltd. President Andrew Horvath today announced that the Australian green hydrogen research and development company has chosen New Mexico as the location for its first North American operation.
Scientific star made the announcement official by signing a letter of intent with Governor Lujan Grisham at the Sustainable Energy Council’s Asia Pacific Hydrogen Summit and Exhibition in Sydney on Thursday.

From early conversations, New Mexico officials emphasized their long-term commitment to hydrogen and their state’s benefits to a company like Star Scientific.

Since the start of the year, Governor Lujan Grisham has announced the recruitment of companies from Singapore, Taiwan, Germany and now Australia to New Mexico.

“Star Scientific’s arrival in New Mexico is a victory for the next generation of job seekers looking to make a difference.
The letter of intent commits Star Scientific to an intensive planning and site denial process for a joint research and mass manufacturing facility in the Mesa del Sol district of Albuquerque. The company is seeking to acquire up to 50 acres and invest $100 million in New Mexico, constructing 7 to 10 buildings for administration, design, testing, manufacturing as well as laboratory research.
The company plans to hire up to 200 employees in New Mexico and is currently negotiating with the state Department of Economic Development an incentive package that would include assistance from the Job Creation Fund under the Local Economic Development Act (LEDA), as well as assistance. for professional training. Once operational, Star Scientific would also be eligible for manufacturing tax credits and the hiring of well-paid workers.
Horvath thanked New Mexico state agencies for their commitment to the project, thanking Environment Secretary James Kenney for his leadership in bringing Star Scientific to New Mexico.

With locations in Australia and Switzerland, Star Scientific is responsible for the development of the award-winning and globally patented HERO® catalyst. HERO® chemically catalyzes hydrogen and oxygen to quickly create heat on an industrial scale without burning the gases and generating greenhouse gases. The only other product is pure water.
The technology will be used for off-grid electricity, desalination and heavy industrial production where high temperatures are required.
“The facility in New Mexico will mirror the facility we will build in Australia and will serve customers in the United States, Canada and, initially, South America. We will develop GHG-free industrial heating systems for industry and stand-alone power systems while continuing our research on other projects,” Horvath said.
