BGEN journalist wins prize for sustainable energy journalism in the Western Balkans

Balkan Green Energy News journalist Vladimir Spasić won a prize in the Western Balkans Sustainable Energy Journalism Prize competition, organized by FUDŠ of Slovenia. Spasić was awarded for a report on the first prosumers in Serbia.

BGEN journalist Vladimir Spasić received the Western Balkans Sustainable Energy Journalism Award – FUDŠ/FAM. The prize, the first of its kind in the region, was awarded by the School of Advanced Social Studies (FUDŠ), in cooperation with the Faculty of Media (FAM) in Ljubljana.

Among the best articles published on the topic of sustainable energy, Spasić won second prize. The BGEN journalist received the prize for an article entitled Serbia leads the way in home solar, gets first prosumers.

Spasić followed the topic closely, reporting on legal frameworks, economic environment and technical possibilities for prosumer development in Serbia and the region. He continued to address this topic even after the publication of the award-winning article on the country’s first prosumer.

Acknowledgments for reporting on sustainable energy in the region

This year, the Western Balkans Sustainable Energy Journalism Award has three winners. The jury included representatives from faculties and green energy companies, as well as communications experts from public relations agencies and think tanks, organizers said. The BGEN journalist became a laureate with two other colleagues from the Western Balkans.

The first prize was awarded to Petar Klincharski from North Macedonia for an article on how to prevent trash and waste from ending up on the streets. Marija Dedić from the e-kapija portal received the third prize for an article on whether the energy crisis will accelerate Serbia’s transition to renewable energy sources.

With this award, FUDŠ aims to identify the best journalistic articles on sustainable energy in the Western Balkans region. The call for submissions included news articles, online stories and video materials published between January 1, 2020 and September 30, 2022.

The award aims to ensure that the topic of sustainable energy is recognized as vital to the future of the region.

FUDŠ launched the award with the aim of identifying the best journalistic works on the subject in the region. The main objective is to ensure that the topic of sustainable energy is recognized as essential for building a better future in the Western Balkans.
