Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and Albania will be connected by rail

“Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), Montenegro and Albania should soon be connected by a railway system,” said Bosnia and Herzegovina Minister of Transport and Communications Vojin Mitrovic.

“One of the topics discussed at the meeting in Montenegro was the issue of connectivity of the Western Balkan countries, first by road and then by railway.”

Mitrovic emphasized that the aim of the Adriatic-Ionian highway is to connect the route from Italy to Greece through Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro.

Asked when the Adriatic-Ionian highway project could move from announcement stage to implementation, he stressed that talks and negotiations took a long time.

“It is difficult to give an answer because talks and negotiations take a long time. One of the problems lies in the definition of the route itself, which must be the subject of an interstate agreement, and in securing financing. Right now the priority is the 5C corridor, while in the second phase the Adriatic-Ionian highway will be the priority,” added Mitrovic.
