Bulgaria wants to attract more Chinese travelers by creating special tourist routes

Bulgarian Tourism Minister Zaritsa Dinkova announced that her country is committed to generating greater interest among Chinese tourists by introducing new tourist routes.

In a recent statement, she also revealed that in the first seven months of 2023, Bulgaria recorded a 138 percent increase in Chinese tourist visits, totaling 6,806, compared to the same period in 2022. SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.

Furthermore, Minister Dinkova also highlighted Bulgaria’s attractiveness as a year-round destination, showcasing its popular winter and seaside resorts, pristine sandy beaches, rejuvenating mineral springs, thermal spa facilities luxury and attractive golf courses.

According to a study by the Ministry of Tourism, Chinese tourists visiting Bulgaria are increasingly attracted by cultural experiences, with the most famous Bulgarian cities including Sofia, Plovdiv, Veliko Tarnovo and Varna.

In this regard, Chinese Governor Ye Jiangchun acknowledged Chinese travelers’ growing fascination with Bulgaria, emphasizing the importance of cultural and historical interactions. He also welcomed the development of specialized tourist routes, expressing confidence in their potential for success.

Furthermore, Ye Jiangchun extended a warm invitation to Minister Dinkova for a productive working visit to Jiangxi Province, which has a population of 45 million.

The Bulgarian Ministry of Tourism reported a significant increase in the number of Chinese tourists visiting the country, with a total increase of 43 percent in 2017. Data from January to August 2018 showed that international tourism revenues in Bulgaria reached more than of 2.8 billion euros, reflecting growth of 7.2 percent compared to 2017.

Meanwhile, in July this year, Bulgaria saw an annual increase in tourist arrivals of 19.7 percent, reaching 1.836 million visitors. This positive trend follows last month’s figure of 23 percent year-on-year growth, as Bulgaria’s tourism sector continues its recovery from the sharp decline caused by the pandemic in 2020.

The tourist flow in July included different types of trips, with leisure and leisure taking the lead, accounting for 50.3% of total visits. Travel for other reasons accounted for 43.9 percent, while visits for business reasons accounted for 5.8 percent.

Recently, Bulgaria has launched a massive campaign to promote its tourist destinations. This campaign involves the careful planning and execution of themed tours, focusing on inviting a diverse group of participants.
