We are excited to announce that the China-Central and Eastern European Food & Music Fest will take place in Beijing next weekend, October 20-22! This will be the third edition of the festival, focused on promoting cultural and artistic exchanges between China and Central and Eastern European countries.
This year’s festival will take place at Square 08 in Chaoyang Park and we will offer an incredible lineup of entertainment, art, culture and, of course, delicious food from various Central and Eastern European countries. It promises to be a weekend full of fun, and the best news is that it’s completely free! Yes, you don’t need to buy a ticket for the festival, but you do need to register first, which you can do by scanning the QR code below.
We are very proud of the diversity of entertainment we have prepared for the festival, with a variety of artists from nine Central and Eastern European countries, namely Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, Romania, Bulgaria , Greece, Hungary, Slovakia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as Chinese entertainment. So let’s take a look at what we have in store!
Balkanopolis
This Serbian band combines elements of jazz, orchestral, rock, pop and indigenous Balkan music using traditional Serbian instruments. The group is led by singer Slobodan Trkulja, who you may recognize from his performance at the 2023 CCTV Spring Festival Gala, where he sang the Serbian folk song “That Far Away Place” accompanied by renowned pianist Lang Lang and violinist Lu Siqing.
A piece
A-Play combines modern music with classical Chinese music and traditional Chinese instruments. A musical project initiated by Chinese composer Zhu Jintai, the group is made up of young folk music performers selected from across China.
Tsvetnitsa
A Bulgarian folk song and dance group, Tsvetnitsa was founded 50 years ago and promotes traditional Bulgarian culture through dance performances. During the festival, they will perform in national costume and introduce the audience to the complexity of Bulgarian folk music.
Other artists
Lupus Dacus, a Romanian world music group; Wild Strings Trio, a pure Slovenian and Slovak jazz trio; Peiros, a Greek folk song and dance group; Croatian soul singer Tea, who lives in Beijing, and her band; Mario Zovko, a Bosnian musician; the Romanian Red Band (R3D), a pop and electronic music group; and finally, professors and students from the Peking Opera Arts Vocational College, who will present local folk dances.
A large part of the festival will also be a cultural market with exhibitions, cultural heritage experiences, art, tourist information and a variety of other activities. Besides the cultural market, there will also be a food market offering a variety of food products from Central and Eastern European countries. Think Greek cuisine, Czech pilsner, Hungarian sausages, Croatian wine and much more!

A note on the “China-CEEC Cultural and Artistic Carnival”
To promote the Belt and Road Initiative and the China-CEEC cultural exchange mechanism, the 3rd “China-CEEC Culture and Arts Carnival” aims to promote cultural and artistic collaboration and communication between China and the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, and to highlight Beijing’s role as an international and national center of culture and tourism. The “China-CEEC Culture and Arts Carnival” has been successfully held for two sessions since 2017, with the participation of 32 artistic groups and nearly 250 foreign artists from 12 countries, and 36 artistic performances and cultural exhibitions were held. been organized, creating an important platform for Beijing’s cultural and tourism exchanges and cooperation with other countries.
The advisor of the carnival is the China-CEEC Cooperation, the hosts are the Beijing Municipal Culture and Tourism Bureau, the People’s Government of Chaoyang District of Beijing Municipality, the organizers are the Exchange Center Overseas Cultural Organizations of Beijing and the Culture and Tourism Bureau of Chaoyang District of Beijing Municipality. This carnival was included in the 2023 Liangma River International Arts Festival.
