EU and Western Balkans telecoms operators reduce data roaming charges

October 4 (VoirNews) – Telecommunications operators in the European Union and Western Balkan countries have reduced data roaming prices from October 1 as part of an agreement to gradually reduce roaming data prices. roaming in both directions, the European Commission announced.

A total of 38 operators have voluntarily committed to reducing the gap between data roaming charges and domestic charges when traveling between the EU and the Western Balkans in both directions, the EU executive said in a press release earlier this week.

Under the agreement signed in December, operators committed to introducing maximum retail price caps of 18 euros ($18.8) per 1 gigabyte from October 2023, 14 euros from 2026 and 9 euros from 2028 for two-way data usage between the EU and the Western Balkans. , according to an earlier statement from the Commission.

In June 2021, the leaders of the Western Balkan countries – Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Albania and Kosovo – agreed to remove roaming charges.
