EU focuses on Balkans as popularity begins to wane

For decades, membership in the European Union was seen as the Holy Grail for Western Balkan countries. But for most of them, this dream remains elusive and they begin to look for alternatives.

People in Albania, Serbia, North Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro have all expressed more disillusionment this year as Europe grapples with the aftermath of Russia’s war in Ukraine and a crisis in Cost of life.
