European Union foreign ministers are holding a “historic meeting” in Kiev today to discuss support for Ukraine, which has been overshadowed by the freeze on US aid funding to that country.
Josep Borrell, the EU’s foreign affairs chief, stressed that amid political difficulties in the US Congress over funding for Ukraine, EU support would be strong. “We are facing an existential threat. Ukrainians are fighting with all their courage and capabilities, and if we want them to succeed, we must provide them with better weapons, and faster,” he said.
Borrell added: “I hope that this decision will not be final and that the United States will continue to support Ukraine. »
Josep Borrell said Ukraine needed better weapons to repel Russian forces.
