Fallen cryptocurrency tycoon Do Kwon has lost an appeal against his conviction for using a fake passport in a failed attempt to leave the small Balkan country of Montenegro.
Montenegro’s highest court said Thursday that a lower court ruled correctly in June when it convicted Kwon and his colleague Chang-joon Han of falsifying documents. The High Court also upheld his four-month prison sentence, according to a statement on its website.
Kwon and Han’s Montenegrin lawyer declined to comment. In separate court proceedings, judges in Montenegro are considering extraditing Kwon to the United States or South Korea on charges related to the $40 billion collapse cryptocurrencies TerraUSD and Luna last year.
