ID-only travel to be introduced soon for Western Balkan countries

Secretary General of the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC), Majlinda Bregu, is confident that early next month, three important agreements will be signed.

According to one of them, citizens of the Western Balkans (WB) will only travel in the region with an identity card. This should be functional by the end of the year. The RCC has already focused on the next step: reducing roaming charges between the Western Balkans and the EU.

Bregu specifies that the agreement on freedom of movement with identity card in the Western Balkans, the agreement on the recognition of higher education diplomas and the agreement on the recognition of professional qualifications of doctors, dentists and architects “are about to be signed on November 3, during the Berlin Process summit of the six Western Balkan countries.

“All citizens of the Western Balkans will finally be treated equally and have the right to travel with an identity card within the territory of the six economies.

Our goal is to achieve the first results in reducing data roaming costs by mid-2023; but to achieve this goal, intensified discussions with mobile operators will continue in November and December,” emphasizes Bregu.
