SARAJEVO – “Austria and Bosnia and Herzegovina are united by a long-standing bond of partnership and friendship. We must now seize the opportunity to get to know each other better,” said Foreign Minister Sebastian Kurz during his visit to Sarajevo. As part of the “Austria – Bosnia and Herzegovina Cultural Year”, Austria is paying special attention to this country in 2016. Together with his counterpart Igor Crnadak, Foreign Minister Sebastian Kurz opened the inaugural ceremony of “the ‘Austria – Bosnia-Herzegovina Cultural Year’. Herzegovina’ at the National Theater in Sarajevo. During this official opening, the Austrian band Square Waltz performed. The trio’s musical palette ranges from jazz, classical music and various variations of world music.
As part of the Cultural Year, a total of around 50 projects will be implemented, the majority in Bosnia and Herzegovina. In the implementation of these projects, which involve music, literature, cinema, fine arts, presentations and conferences, the Austrian Embassy in Sarajevo will cooperate with partners from and across the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina. In Austria, the cultural department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in collaboration with the Embassy of Bosnia and Herzegovina and cultural partners such as the Museumsquartier, the Alte Schmiede, the BUCH Wien, the Volkstheater or the Frauenmuseum Hittisau, organizes projects focused on contemporary creation. .
The Austria – Bosnia and Herzegovina Cultural Year 2016 will be as multifaceted as our bilateral relations. With more than 50 projects in our two countries, it will also be quite substantial. The exchange and connection of artists will be central elements of the different projects. Regarding the content, various topics such as migration, religion, identity and the EU will be addressed, among others, by specialists in religious sciences, legal philosophers, musicians, writers, filmmakers as well as students.
