Commenting on the situation in Israel and the region, Minister Fajon said: “I strongly condemn the attacks on hospitals, civilians and children. We must achieve a humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza and ensure that aid reaches the population. “During the debate on Russian aggression against Ukraine, Minister Fajon expressed Slovenia’s continued support for Ukraine, including on its path to the EU, as well as for the peace formula and cooperation with global partners. She also highlighted support for the OSCE and its role in the European security architecture. The ministers also heard from the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba, who outlined the current situation in Ukraine and the activities of Ukrainian President Zelenskiy regarding the peace formula. Minister Fajon also supported the European perspective of Moldova and Georgia and welcomed the recommendations presented by the European Commission last week, emphasizing that negotiations must take place in parallel with the reform process and that “the Western Balkan countries must not be neglected in the EU enlargement process”.

The ministers also discussed Armenia and Azerbaijan, focusing on ensuring the territorial integrity of the two countries, unhindered humanitarian assistance, transparency and international access to the Upper Karabakh, as well as the need for dialogue between the two parties. The minister called on both sides to refrain from the use of force and respect their international legal obligations, including respect for the human rights of the Armenian population of Karabakh. The dialogue on the normalization of relations must be resumed and humanitarian access must be guaranteed. She announced Slovenia’s contribution to humanitarian aid to Armenia.

Minister Fajon will also participate in the EU-Western Balkans ministerial meeting to discuss prospects for enhanced cooperation between the EU and the region.
