Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said Thursday he hoped Greece would become a green energy exporter “in the medium term” during a panel discussion on “A Green Deal for Europe, anyone?” at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

“We hope that in the medium term, Greece will become an exporter of green energy, there is great interest in investments in this sector… By choosing natural gas as a transition fuel, our country has become a supplier of energy through the Balkan countries to Ukraine by establishing solid interconnections. In the interconnection sector, there must be investments. The interconnection with Africa is also important. We are already in talks with Egypt on a project of great European interest,” he said.

He also insisted that the EU must find a balance between the competitiveness of its economy and the relevant rules, noting that there are countries which have the fiscal strength to support their businesses and others which do not. don’t have any.

“If you want people’s support for green energy, you need to find mutually beneficial solutions, like we did in the small islands of our country, where we explained to residents the benefits of electricity “, did he declare.

The annual meeting of the World Economic Forum takes place in Davos from January 15 to 19, 2024.
