The Bulgarian winter resorts of Borovets and Pamporovo report that this season most foreign tourists come from Britain and the Balkan countries. Both stations have high occupancy rates.
Bulgarians now make up the second largest tourist group. Both resorts arouse the interest of Bulgarians all year round.
Borovets
Blagovesta Tomova, president of the Association of Hoteliers and Owners of the Borovets resort, told BTA that the largest number of Balkan tourists come from North Macedonia, Kosovo and Romania. In addition, the relaxation of visa requirements since January 1 has attracted tourists from other Balkan countries, mainly Serbia and Kosovo.
Tomova said that the Borosport company continues to improve the condition of the slopes with technical snow. Thanks to this and the efforts of hoteliers, many hotels in Borovets are full. The resort has offered a wider range of activities in recent years, including themed evenings aimed at reaching all tourists.
After winter, Borovets will be open for congress tourism, followed by the summer season.
Tomova stressed that there is room for improvement in the station’s infrastructure, especially regarding parking spaces and the appearance of the facilities.
Pamporovo
Pamporovo AD Executive Director Marian Belyakov said the number of foreign tourists is close to that recorded in 2023. He noted an increase in Romanian, Greek and Serbian groups.
Belyakov said Pamporovo would be full of tourists between January 15 and March 4.
The statistics office of the southern city of Smolyan told BTA that hotels in the Smolyan region, where Pamporovo is located, registered guests from Iceland, Egypt, Australia, China, Chile and the United Arab Emirates, in addition to traditionally active Great Britain and Ireland. Arrivals from unusual markets in Pamporovo and the region are due to a growing tendency of customers to book their own tours. Last winter, the region saw bookings from China, India, Australia, Georgia, Brazil, Canada and the United States.
