Netanyahu’s challenge to courts’ power faces scrutiny from judges | Ap

In proceedings watched live across the country, Israel’s top judges clashed with government lawyers over a controversial law passed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s right-wing coalition that limits the court’s power.

The case — brought by opposition lawmakers and watchdog groups — is one of the most important in the country’s history, and for the first time all 15 Supreme Court justices participated in it Tuesday. A decision is not expected for weeks, but their questioning suggests they consider it well within their power to overturn the law.
