Romania is rushing to build a new multibillion-euro high-voltage cable to carry electricity across the country and to neighboring Hungary, aiming to almost double its renewable energy output and become a supplier of regional electricity.
The Balkan country, which plans to produce an additional 10,000 megawatts of renewable energy by 2030, hopes to complete a detailed feasibility study in six months, the energy minister said. Sébastien Burduja said in an interview in Bucharest. The report will determine the cable’s capacity, estimated at more than 3 billion euros ($3.2 billion), representing a considerable sum for the country battling a growing deficit.
