Passengers have voted Teesside International Airport as one of the best UK airports for leisure travel in the country’s biggest travel awards.
The airport received the gong in the ‘small’ category at the British Travel Awards, the largest consumer opinion survey on all things leisure travel. The awards span the entire holiday sector, with travel agencies, cruise lines, travel agents, hotel brands, airlines and airports all in the running.
The transformation of Teesside International Airport appears to have made a huge impression on passengers, who voted in their thousands to put Teesside top of the list in its category. This is the third award won, following British and Irish Airport of the Year at the TTG Travel Industry Awards.

Phil Forster, Managing Director of Teesside International Airport, added: “I would like to thank all of our valued passengers who have taken the time to provide their support. From feedback on social media, satisfaction surveys and talking to people in the terminal, we know they love flying from Teesside, but to see that support lead to this award is fantastic.
“We never want to lose sight of why we do this: to give people the best possible experience, whether they’re going on vacation, making vital business connections, or locating on our site. We want our airport to be a success for everyone – and this year shows that we are definitely moving in the right direction.
Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen said: “What a way to end the year! After a year of working to further expand the airport, support our local businesses and institutions and increase our passenger numbers even further, this is the icing on the cake.
“Make no mistake, the British Travel Awards are not a small operation that exists just for airports to pat themselves on the back: they are of national and international significance and are presented by the biggest and best. This will once again put our region on the map, with Teesside Airport to the forefront as we prove we can do anything we want.
