That’s why, for those considering a budget-friendly trip this fall, it’s important to determine which destinations offer lodging options that fit into a strict spending plan.
Those looking forward to a European retirement will be happy to know that AirDNA, a company that collects short-term vacation rental data from thousands of sources, has just released its report. most recent ranking destinations currently offering the cheapest Airbnb rates.
Moldova
Short-term rental in Moldova, a little corner of paradise Eastern European countrieshave just been crowned the cheapest in all of Europe.
So, if you’re on a budget but still want to experience the fall getaway of your dreams to the Old Continent, consider this underrated country as your destination of choice.
Airbnbs here offer an average daily rate of €47 (~$50), although many cheaper options are also available for those who want to keep their expenses as low as possible.
For example, a quick Airbnb Search shows that you can get a lovely apartment all to yourself for just over $20.
It is important to note that if you opt for certain premium facilities or locations, the rates will reflect this.
That said, you will still get away with paying less for the same level of comfort (compared to other similar European countries)
Plus, Moldova is famous for its ancient history, untouched natural beauty, and world-class wine, so don’t worry about missing out on these quintessential European experiences while traveling here.
North Macedonia
North Macedonia is one of the smallest countries in the Balkans; However, what it lacks in size it more than makes up for in history, culture and natural appeal.
The average daily Airbnb fee here is just €48 (~$51), allowing visitors to enjoy a full week’s stay without spending $400.
Kosovo
Another small landlocked country in Eastern Europe completes the top 3.
Although Kosovo doesn’t promise the same warm, seaside charm as its Mediterranean neighbors, its beautiful mountainous terrain, lush forests, and rich cultural scene make it the perfect setting for an autumn getaway.
Since the country has been the scene of violent military conflicts in the past, some areas, according to the US Travel Advisoryit is best to leave them unexplored.
As long as you stick to the big cities like Pristina or Gjilan, you’ll have the trip of a lifetime. Plus, all prices are pretty reasonable, even in the more touristy areas.
Airbnbs are no exception, with an average daily rate of €49 (~$52).
Albania
Once one of Europe’s most off-the-beaten-track destinations, Albania recently won lots of interest on the international tourist scene thanks to its rich culture, its magnificent riviera and its reasonable prices.
Generally speaking, Airbnbs in the country are cheaper than hotels, averaging €60 (~$64). So, if you are ever in Albania, short term rentals are the way to go.
That said, it’s worth noting that the most touristy and expensive areas of the country skew this average significantly.
The reason so many travelers seem to wonder whether Albania is a budget destination or not is that prices can vary greatly between cities and regions.
If you were to stay near one of the most coveted beaches (e.g. Dhërmi, Jalë, Saranda) in high season, you would notice that the prices are almost comparable to those found in some regions of Greece or elsewhere. ‘Italy.
However, with the end of the summer season, prices will inevitably drop. Plus, there are many beautiful and budget-friendly cities outside of the Riviera that you can visit this fall.

Serbia

Although landlocked, Serbia is one of the most stunning and historically rich destinations in the region, offering so much to see and do that you’ll want to spend at least 4-5 days in the country to understand everything.
Luckily, you won’t have to spend an arm and a leg on your Serbia vacation, since Airbnbs here cost an average of €62 (~$66) per night.
The country’s must-see attractions include:
- Belgrade Fortress
- The temple of Saint Sava
- Nikola Tesla Museum
- Golubac Fortress
- Skull Tower
- Nis Fortress
European destinations with the most expensive Airbnb rates
According to this same AirDNA report, these are the European countries with the most expensive Airbnb rates and their respective average daily fees:
- Monaco – €338 (~$360)
- Iceland – €231 (~$246)
- Switzerland – €208 (~$222)
- United Kingdom – €205 (~$218)
- Greece – €203 (~$216)
Despite being one of the smallest countries in the world, Monaco offers a feeling of splendor and luxury that comes with a hefty price tag. Airbnb prices here are 46.34% higher than the next lowest spot.
