BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 16. THE The Western Balkans are essential to the whole of Europe and therefore I think it is in Europe’s interest to include the Western Balkans in the European Union, said former Croatian President Ivo Josipović during the 11th World Forum in Baku: Orient yourself reports.
“But there is a ‘but’. This ‘but’, in my opinion, is linked to the capabilities of the European Union on the one hand, as well as to the capabilities of certain countries in the so-called Western Balkans, somewhere else,” he stressed.
According to Ivo Josipovic, the European Union must be forced not to be so unequivocal on the criteria.
“This means that the political criteria and the security criteria conflict to a certain extent with the Copenhagen criteria, but not only technically but also politically,” he noted.
The former Croatian president said that if we look at the accession of certain countries to the EU, we see that they all meet the criteria.
“Second, the European Union does not have a coherent and unified security and foreign policy. This is the weakness of the European Union,” he added.
Note that the XI Global Baku Forum brings together representatives from many countries as well as prestigious international organizations: more than 350 guests from more than 70 countries.
The forum, which will last until March 16, will host global discussions on the outcomes of COP28 and preparations for COP29, examine factors that pose threats to the new world order, as well as security issues and prospects of peace, the construction of stability in the world. a fractured world, its impact on the global world, will discuss ways to address the challenges facing humanity, address the conflicts and megathreats shaking the world, including climate, food and nuclear security.
At the same time, discussions will take place on the role of military and economic alliances in global governance, regional perspectives, the European Union and its relations with its neighbors, youth policy, ways to strengthen resilience in the face of global challenges, inequalities, scarcity of natural resources. and issues of migration, artificial intelligence and new security paradigms in the age of drones and cyberweapons.
